Emerging Social Protection and Community Resilience Experiences to Bridge the Nexus

This event brings together key stakeholders linking humanitarian assistance with social protection to build resilience, exploring opportunities to leverage existing national programmes to deliver aid more efficiently, whilst also adapting and designing them to be responsive to current and future shocks. The session will showcase promising examples from current models in fragile settings, highlighting the need to transition from costly, short-term emergency responses to more sustainable, government-led assistance delivery models.

Briefing on the Links between Food Security and Displacement

The Internal Displacement Monitoring Center (IDMC) produces the annual Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID) which presents up-to-date data and analysis on the situation of internally displaced people (IDPs) worldwide. GRID 2023 highlighted the combined effects of conflict, climate change and food insecurity on internal displacement, and, like the 2023 Global Report on Food Crises, highlighted the overlap between countries with highest number of IDPs and countries experiencing crisis-levels of hunger; 75% of countries experiencing food crisis had internally displaced populations. The report noted that food insecurity conditions are often worse for IDPs, who tend to have lower food intake because of displacement. Their food insecurity also tends to get worse the more often they are displaced. The Global Network Against Food Crises is hosting the event with the support of FAO's Office of Emergencies and Resilience, Conflict & Peace Unit, with remarks provided by FAO Deputy Director Beth Bechdol, and an overview of GRID 2023 findings.

Forging Resilience: Harnessing evidence-based agrifood transformation for navigating multiple crises

Insights from South Asia and the Horn of Africa

This side event of the Committee on Food Security (CFS) aims to present and prioritize conflict-sensitive practical, actionable solutions and innovations along the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) Nexus that address the multitude of crises while supporting long-term agrifood systems transformation. It will draw from examples from the Horn of Africa (HoA) and South Asia, to formulate key messages on building resilient and sustainable food systems in countries facing multiple crises, thereby informing CFS51 deliberations.

Expert Consultation on Measurement and Analysis of Food System Resilience in Fragile Settings

The two-day expert consultation on "Measurement and Analysis of Food System Resilience in Fragile Settings" aimed to promote collaboration and action towards investing in local food systems and agri-value chains in fragile and vulnerable contexts, specifically:  1) take stock of resilience measuring tools for food systems in fragile and food-crisis contexts that can support value chain selection and strengthening, 2) explore opportunities for supporting programming in fragile and conflict-affected contexts, and 3) set up a follow-up operational action plan.
