A joint FAO/WFP update for the members of the United Nations Security Council

20/02/2024 -

This is the thirteenth update of the Monitoring food security in food crisis countries and territories with conflict situations, jointly produced by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) to inform members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on critical food crises driven by conflict and insecurity.

The Global Network's 2023 Financing Flows and Food Crises Report features an analysis of external financing flows to food sectors in food crisis countries. The third edition of the report presents the trends of humanitarian and development financing to sectors of food assistance, agriculture and nutrition for the period 2016-2022 in food crisis countries and territories identified from the Global Report of Food Crises, with preliminary data for development assistance allocations to food sectors in 2022. Leveraging strategic investments in food security and nutrition: Our country and regional approach

23/01/2024 -

Supporting members of the Global Network Against Food Crises (GNAFC), national governments, local actors, regional organisations, the United Nations, and the wider international system at a country level is a core aspect our added value and a key element of our 3x3 approach, linking global, regional, and national actions.

As a unique partnership that brings together the European Union, the United States, the World Bank, FAO, WFP and UNICEF, GNAFC is able to utilise and leverage the considerable operational, strategic, financial and political capacities of its members to achieve its aims to improve the effectiveness of food crisis response, prevent food and nutrition crises from occurring, and contribute to the longer-term strengthening of national food systems for sustainable, peaceful societies.

From the Africa Climate Week to COP28 and beyond, people on the frontline of climate change, conflict and hunger must not be left behind

05/01/2024 -

The world is facing a polycrisis. Communities on the frontline of climate change are innovating and adapting. They need coordinated support to help them build resilience.During the 28th Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) meeting in Dubai (COP28), climate adaptation for people living in conflict affected and fragile contexts featured high on the agenda for the first time. The Declaration on Climate, Relief, Recovery and Peace endorsed by 80 member states during COP28 is a welcomed step in the right direction and provides concrete opportunities to mobilize commitments for transformative actions. However, inspiring initiatives are as strong as their implementation. Without sustained momentum, communities impacted by climate change, hunger and conflict - or so-called “fragile contexts” risk being left behind.

39th Annual RPCA Meeting – Summary of Conclusions

29/12/2023 -

In the Sahel and West Africa region, approximately 31.7 million people require immediate food and nutritional assistance. Without appropriate measures, 44.5 million individuals could face acute food and nutritional insecurity by the lean season of June-August 2024, with over 2 million in urgent need. Furthermore, 85.6 million people currently under food pressure might fall into crisis without adequate interventions. Members of the Food Crisis Prevention Network (RPCA) urge stakeholders to take urgent action to save 31.7 million lives and build a future free from food and nutritional crises.

The 39th RPCA annual meeting took place on 5-8 December 2023, with the central theme: “Transformations of Diets, Markets and Prices in the Sahel and West Africa: Implications for Agricultural and Food Security Policies”. In this framework, Global Network’s members contributed to the analyses with data and assessments in the PREGEC cycle, which culminated with the RPCA meeting.
